Skyline
Magazine is now the new
Skyline Review - perfect bound 6 x 9 book, generally
200+ pages. We have no themes. Although we publish
quarterly, every winter, spring, summer and fall, we do not
necessarily seek out seasonal material. An occasional
holiday story or poem will be considered, but on the whole,
we look for interesting, quality literature and color cover
art of all styles and genre. Skyline Review may be purchased
for $16.00 USD which includes shipping.
More Information
Short Story Guidelines:
-
All Manuscripts Must Be Submitted
PRINT READY. We cannot make author revisions
after accepted manuscripts have been added to our
documents. Please read your manuscript over several
times - and have someone else read it for any necessary
edits or revisions, to make sure what you submit is
FINAL. Accepted stories
will be printed "as is". We can only correct our
formatting errors, spelling or grammatical errors, which
should have been caught by the author - prior to
submitting.
-
Please submit stories in block style without tabs. Use
Verdana 8 point font style and size.
-
ASTERIKS *** must enclose any text that should be
italicized. ALL THOUGHTS SHOULD BE ITALICIZED. I
wish all manuscripts were submitted this way, she
thought. Would be *I wish all manuscripts were
submitted this way,* she thought.
-
EXAMPLE
. Double space
your manuscript. Skip an extra space between paragraphs
and dialogue. We will indent, do the formatting and
when time permits, we may email the story back to you on
a pdf galley for approval. Formatting per our
guidelines is important, as we cannot always remove
document formatting/tabs, which interferes with our
document programs. Adhering to our guidelines will avoid
print errors when your story is published in Skyline
Review and Literary House Review.
-
Manuscripts not submitted in this manner will be
returned.
- We
consider 'shorts' and essays of 1500 words.
-
Short Stories: 4000
word maximum
is the norm, however, for exceptional material we'll
publish up to 5000 words.
- We accept simultaneous
submissions, and for our E-Magazines
prefer stories that have not been previously
published on the Internet.
-
Skyline PRINT Magazine will not publish previously
published material.
-
Skyline reserves the right to correct errors and
restructure sentences if necessary, but we won't
re-write a story. Submitting a clean manuscript is the
author's responsibility, and the only way to have your
story accepted.
- Include
a brief, third person bio not to
exceed 50 words, and a brief synopsis of the
story you are submitting.
- A
short synopsis will help us
get back to you more promptly. 75
words would be fine.
- Due
to a backlog of submissions and lack of physical
resources, we will no longer
be able to reply to every
submission. If your story is accepted, you will hear
from us at our earliest convenience, which could take up
to 4 months. This is the primary reason we accept
simultaneous submissions, as we do not want to tie your
work up. If your story is accepted elsewhere, please
advise us so that we may remove your material from our
files. We ask for first publishing rights. Thank you for
your patience.
Skyline seeks all genre of
fresh, well written, new story concepts.
Please send your original
creations edited for grammar and
sentence structure - ready for publication. If
our editors like a story, but feel a bit of tweaking is
necessary, we'll contact the author with constructive
suggestions. We do not critique, but if we feel a story has
great potential, we may offer our opinion on story
improvement and ask the author if they would like to revise,
so it may be accepted for our publications. Please submit
clean, edited manuscripts. We suggest you have someone proof
your manuscript, such as an editor or a friend, to check
grammar and punctuation. Although we do final spelling and
grammar checking of stories, "clean" manuscripts receive
priority consideration and ultimate publication.
- Skyline
considers Special Features and
Articles. We look for
interesting, unique, previously unpublished, original
literature. 1500 words maximum. Please use same
submission instructions as for stories.
Poetry Guidelines:
submit
HERE for Skyline Magazine, Poet Express, A Hudson View
Poetry Digest, SpinningS...intense tales of life magazine.
All publications are quarterly. All submissions will be
considered for all of our publications, print and online.
- All styles and poetic
themes will be considered. Poems can be of any length.
Poems should be edited and ready for publication, typed
in a combination of lower and upper case or lower case
only. Please don't submit poetry typed in all upper
case. We will have to return it. In
some cases, due to the page layout of our print
magazines, we may not be able to retain all poetic
formatting. We are unable to email proof galleys to
poets prior to publication, so please be certain to
submit FINAL COPY per guidelines, ready to print "AS
IS". We may on occasion confirm poetry via email, when
time permits.
- Please submit at least
4 to 6 poems in each
submission using ONE Submission Form.
- Include a brief bio of
about 50 words in THIRD PERSON.
Although we may archive
some poems, all poetry remains the sole property of the
poets who submit them. Poets reserve all rights to their

COPYRIGHT info.
Artists and illustrators
retain sole rights to their art, at all times.
- Please query before
submitting art, with a brief description of your style
of work and url of a web site where you art is currently
displayed. Our space is limited to 3 pieces of art per

Questions and Answers.
A letter from a poet. An interesting read.
Skyline
Review is published four times a year in fine quality print,
featuring stories and poetry. Should we not produce a
lovely print quarterly issue for any reason, we may provide
our readers with a beautiful EMagazine which will be
available online.
Although we
would like to reply to every email, due to lack of
resources, we can only respond to accepted material. If your
story or poetry is accepted, you should hear back from us
within 2 - 4 months. We always contact authors prior to
publication and print to confirm material is still available
and has not been published elsewhere. We appreciate your
understanding and patience.
